Alive Moments March 2025

As spring approaches, we are reminded of the hope and renewal this season brings. Thanks to supporters like you, we see spiritual, physical, emotional, and cognitive growth in the lives touched by Kids Alive. We are continually encouraged by the transformation that's taking place, and we’re excited to share this month’s Alive Moments with you!

How hope springs at Kids Alive:

Lebanon: After being closed for over two months due to the ongoing war, the New Horizons Center reopened its doors.

Kenya: KAK hosted their first Hope Connection Camp with 130 children in attendance.

Dominican Republic: Celebrated Kings' Day with devotionals, worship, and special meals, deepening the children's understanding of God’s love.

Guatemala: 31 students at Kids Alive Guatemala took steps toward a brighter future.

Haiti: A group of students, ages 10-12, chose to spend their recess immersed in books.

Peru: A victim of abuse started receiving trauma-informed care, including education, psychological support, and spiritual guidance.

Zambia: 75 children attended a Vacation Bible School hosted by Kids Alive Zambia.

Lebanon

The New Horizons Center reopened its doors last month after being closed for over two months due to the ongoing war in Lebanon! After the ceasefire was issued, families and communities started to resume regular life to get back to as much normalcy as possible–including the staff at Kids Alive! Everyone at the center enjoyed a fresh start to the new year: learning, having fun, and working through the hardships and trauma they just went through.

The work of trauma-informed care is just beginning as the staff helps kids heal and move forward despite the harsh conditions they continue to live in. Join us in praying for the staff as they serve and the kids that they will become vessels of change in their families and communities.

Kenya

Kids Alive Kenya hosted their first Hope Connection Camp! 130 children from Nairobi & Karundas Hope Centers came together for a powerful time of connection—with each other and God. This blending of the centers was significant because kids got to connect and learn from others with a different lifestyle and community environments.

The theme of Hope Connection Camp? LOVE—what it is, how to show it, and why it matters. Love, kids learned, is what allows people to connect and thrive. Through shared experiences, they learned about love as a unifying force and how it breaks down barriers of selfishness. More than that, they learned how God's love binds believers together as a family in Christ.

As these kids learn to embrace God's love, they take this message home, impacting their families and communities with kindness, knowledge, and hope. This creates a cycle of positive change, allowing kids to grow into thriving adults who have the power to change their community for the better.

Dominican Republic

In the Dominican Republic and many Latin American countries, January 6th—Kings' Day—is a meaningful time when children receive gifts and celebrate the birth of Jesus, much like Christmas traditions elsewhere. This special day reflects the Magi bringing gifts to Jesus, reminding them that Jesus is God’s greatest gift to us all.

At Kids Alive, we celebrated Kings' Day with skits, devotionals, worship, and special meals, deepening the children's understanding of God’s love. Thanks to our generous donors and visiting teams, each child received a meaningful gift, often the only one they’ll get all year. For many, this becomes one of their most cherished memories, reinforcing their hope and encouraging them to stay in school.

Thank you for being a part of this day and so many others that are changing kids' lives. Your generosity and prayers are making a lasting Kingdom impact!

Guatemala

The 2025 school year is underway, and we’re celebrating 31 students at Kids Alive Guatemala—from nursery to high school—taking steps toward a brighter future! 12 children are studying at our internal school at Oasis, while 17 students are attending external schools, including private institutions and vocational programs.

This year, we’ve also introduced school uniforms for our boarding school students and expanded partnerships with two additional schools—opening even more opportunities for learning and growth. For our high schoolers, this means pursuing specialties in accounting, computing, and science and arts, equipping them with valuable skills for independence.

As Education Coordinator Ruth Alelí Maxía Sotza shares, education has the power to change lives. It’s more than just academics—it’s about restoring the right to learn, building confidence, and creating lasting impact. With faith, guidance, and opportunity, these children are stepping into a future filled with hope and purpose. Thank you for being part of this journey!

Haiti

The Joy of Reading in Haiti!

A group of Kids Alive students in Haiti, ages 10-12, chose to spend their recess immersed in books. Their love for reading is a testament to the power of education—when given the right support, children don’t just learn; they thrive.

We believe in Restorative Education—an approach that goes beyond academics to heal, empower, and equip children for a brighter future. In Haiti and around the world, we are committed to creating safe spaces where kids can rediscover the joy of learning and the hope that comes with it.

When children choose a book, they choose possibilities.

Peru

Kids Alive is focused on providing justice that heals for kids like Mariela (pseudonym for safety). Mariela lived with her family, where she was a victim of abuse from her mother, who struggled with alcohol addiction. When Mariela was 8, her mother passed away, and her family fell apart.

Mariela and her brother, who had a mental disability, went to live with their older sister, even though she was already supporting her own family of eight. Over time, her sister could not care for her two younger siblings due to work responsibilities and financial difficulties. As a result, Mariela was moved from home to home for over a year. After many traumatic moves, she was eventually transferred to Kids Alive Peru's El Enebro Residential Care Center in Lima-Pachacamac, where she continues to live today.

Because of this, she now has access to trauma-informed care, including education, psychological support, and spiritual guidance. Mariela has been able to rebuild her life, find stability, and embrace a future full of possibilities. Stories like Mariela's are what Kids Alive is all about!

Zambia

Kids Alive Zambia hosted a Vacation Bible School with the theme "When Life is Wild, God is Good!" 75 children from local churches and some non-Christian families came to learn, play, and experience God's love. More than 12 volunteers dedicated their time, guiding kids through Bible lessons, crafts, and games—reinforcing the truth that:

  • When life is unfair…God is good!
  • When life is scary…God is good!

The highlight? 16 children gave their lives to Jesus! Seeing their joy as they learned new songs, shared meals, and received VBS T-shirts was incredible! Older kids stepped up as volunteers—mentoring younger ones and showing the power of leading and giving back. It was a beautiful reminder that we're raising a generation of kids who have the power to change their families and communities for God.

Thank you for making this possible—your support of the mission of Kids Alive is providing justice that heals and building bonds that mend.
